There are no slots included by default, all slots are created only as needed. This reduces instances where one or more superfluous slots are present without any suitable items to go into the slot. Slots are completely customizable and manipulable. Slots can have custom backgrounds, different sizes, and can even be disabled or hidden by default. Similarly, check the slots in use by inserting a known working stick of RAM in it and running your computer. If it fails to run on any one slot, then the slot in question is faulty rendering the RAM inserted in it unusable by Windows. If all the slots and stick of RAM are working, inserting them back but in different slots as they were. In looking at my options, I found that within the Performance tap of Task Manager that it shows my laptop having 'Slots used: 2 of 4' so I had hoped to use the other two ports for additional memory. However, according to the hardware specifications for my laptop, there are only 2 x SODIMM slots available for use.
